Australia's solar mix: utility solar power

Utility-scale solar refers to large solar power plants that generate electricity to be supplied to the grid, rather than for individual or local use.

Utility-scale solar farms typically cover large areas and have high generation capacities, often ranging from several megawatts (MW) to hundreds of MW.

They use huge numbers of photovoltaic (PV) panels or concentrated solar power (CSP) systems to harness sunlight.

These solar farms are connected to the grid, to supply power through existing grid infrastructure.

Major Projects in Australia include Nyngan (NSW), Broken Hill (NSW), Darling Downs (QLD), and Limondale (NSW).
